About us

SPIE Plexal


SPIE Plexal was established in 2002 as a brownfield’s specialist engineering company. Our core capabilities initially centred around instrument, electrical and control systems engineering and commissioning. Since being acquired by SPIE in 2013 we have expanded our capability to include maintenance engineering and instrument / electrical implementation and inspection services.

In addition to our Australian offices in Perth and Brisbane, SPIE have a global presence which can serve local, regional and worldwide needs for our specialist services. We have completed over 1,000 projects and continue to serve our Clients across projects in Australia, Africa, and the Middle East.

SPIE Plexal has proven capability and experience in delivering greenfield and brownfield projects and services. Our knowledge of the asset lifecycle combined with technical and delivery expertise adds significant value for our Clients.

Dean Paton - Managing Director

Bachelor of Electrical and Control Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce; University of Western Australia, 1994.

Dean commenced his engineering career in 1994 working across all aspects of conceptual definition, design, estimation, procurement, supervision, installation and commissioning of multi-disciplined and control system upgrade projects for the oil / gas and mining industries.

Dean has extensive site experience with highlights including the successful completion of “hot cutovers” of the control and safeguarding systems for a large oil and gas offshore complex.

Dean joined Plexal Group in 2004 and as Operations Manager he was able to achieve 400% growth over 18 months. Dean was elected to the Board as Executive Director in 2006 and led the establishment of our Thailand office.

Dean was elevated to Chief Executive Officer of Plexal Group in 2012 and is now Managing Director of the re-branded entity SPIE Plexal.

Vic Di Camillo - General Manager, Western Australia

Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce; University of Western Australia, 1994.

Vic commenced his career in 1995 as a Controls Systems Engineer and has gained experience in vendor support roles, project delivery and site-based commissioning.

Vic has experience working with across several industry sectors including mining, mineral processing, materials handling, utilities and oil and gas.

Vic joined Plexal Group in 2005 as a Project / Lead Instrument Engineer and has successfully delivered projects and repeat business from Clients such as DBP, ROC Oil, APA and AWE. Vic’s project delivery skills and Client focus is highly valued by our customers.

Vic was appointed General Manager (WA) in 2013 and is responsible for the SPIE Plexal WA business unit.
